Super Saturdays

The past two Saturdays have been a lot of fun, well aside from attending classes and having midterms/finals and papers to write. As soon as my Saturday classes got out at noon Tyler had the most fun activities planned.

Last Saturday we went to a book signing with Mitt Romney (he was visiting Miramar), we stood in line for about an hour and finally got to meet him. It was pretty cool, Tyler and Mitt both served their missions in France and were able to talk about that for a bit. He was really nice and it was cool getting to meet him in person.

After the book signing we headed down to MCRD for the 8th and I parade. For those who don’t know, the “8th and I” are an elite Marine Corps silent drill platoon. They really are so amazing to watch, just go to YouTube and you can check out some really cool videos. Before they performed there was a performance by the Commandants Own, marching band.

Yesterday was also a really fun day. After taking my final we headed to Balboa park to see a play at the Old Globe Theatre, which is an exact replica of an old Shakespearian theater in London. We saw a play called “Boeing, Boeing” about an architect who lives in Paris and is engaged to THREE different flight attendants. He needs the help of his friend to keep them from finding out about one another. It was pretty funny, a couple crude parts, but overall it was fun. During intermission we went outside to this cute little café and got a yummy piece of cheesecake (so good!). After the play we strolled around Balboa park and then went to a fun dinner and camera shopping (I’m looking at getting a new little camera).

Saturday Day Trip...Yuma

Since Tyler now has Saturday's off again we're able to start going on our fun day-trips again. For some reason Ty got it in his head to go see the Marine base in Yuma. He promised me there would be a charming city, cool old prison and of course the cool base to see. While I had a lot of fun, it wasn't quite the "charm" I was looking for. It's only a couple hours away and we got there around lunch time. We found a cute little cafe called "Esther's Cafe" where we had a great lunch. We walked around the "historic" district (it really just means old, with barely any shops) and then headed over to the old prison. I guess I'm a little weird, but I loved the prison and little museum. I admit, I sometimes get bored in museums, but reading about the prison and some of the criminals was pretty interesting. After the prison we checked out an old Catholic mission and drove around the base for a few minutes. It was a fun day.

I thought this was pretty funny. This guy was sentenced to 2 years for "seduction under promise of marriage." Don't you just love the cocky grin?

The Dark Cell. This is their version of solitary confinement. The inmates were chained to the grate on the floor, we're given one meal a day (bread and water) and left in the dark for days at a time (with no bathroom options, and multiple people in one cell).
There were a few LDS prisoners in for polygamy. Usually only serving a few months.

Parents Visit, Take II

Here are a few new pictures from my parents trip here a few days ago. Since they've been here so many times we end up doing a lot of the same old stuff. But, this trip we took them to the Torrey Pines State Park. It is so beautiful there, and we had a lot of fun hiking around on the trails.

Happy Birthday Tyler!!!

I want to wish Tyler a very Happy 31st Birthday today! He is such a wonderful husband and he really deserves the best! I woke up early (around 6AM) to make him a yummy breakfast before he went off to work and have been busy working all day getting his presents together. I thought it would be fun to make him a candy-gram to let him know how much I love him. After opening presents were headed to Chili's for dinner (his favorite restaurant). Anyway, below are just a few pictures from his "party".

Mormon Battalion Visitors Center

Last Saturday Tyler and I went to the grand re-opening of the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center in Old Town. We were both blown away by how nice it was, they really went above and beyond. I wish I would have taken more pictures of the inside, they have a cool guided tour that you go on that is really well done. They really made it kid friendly for all the field trips they host. Below are a few pictures from the visitors center and the surrounding historic homes and of course Old Town. Every year the LDS Church puts on a fun festival to honor the battalion and their contributions to San Diego. It was a lot of fun!

Parent's Attempt to Escape Bad Weather

A couple weeks ago my parents decided they had had enough of the Utah snow and thought it would be a perfect time to visit *sunny* San Diego. I was excited to see them and came up with a fun list of things to do while they were here. Of course, the one week they decide to come is the one week where it rained the entire time. It did put a damper (pun intended) on the trip, but we still managed to have a good time. One of the coolest things we did was visit the Reagan Library. My dad was SO excited to see Air Force One he practically ran through the museum to get to the plane.
