Okinawa Zoo

The Okinawa zoo was a lot of fun. It wasn't as nice as zoo's back in the states and some of their cages actually make you pretty sad. But, the kids loved seeing all the animals.

Austin and Ashley went crazy over the little turles.

(The zoo didn't have that many cool animals, but they did have a lot of turtles.)

The coolest thing there was of course the elephants. Ashley got SOOO excited to see the elephants. They actually let you feed them. I fed him a few little treats then Ashley went crazy wanting to see the elephant. She would wave and the trainer would have the elephant wave back with his trunk. Ashley went nuts, and so did the crowd. They all loved seeing Ashley laughing and "playing" with the elephant. I decided to let her try feeding the elephant, so I put a carrot in her hand and she thought it was for her of course, but the elephant snatched it out of her hand! Ashley was NOT happy with the elephant for taking her food. But, she soon caught on and fed the elephant a few more treats. It was so funny to see how much she loved the elephant.

Ashley saw this cute stuffed elephant and had to have it! It's her new favorite toy.

We were a little nervous for this worker, these guys are so huge up close!

For some reason this lion did not like us. We stopped to look at him and after a couple minutes he got up and started pacing nervously around his cage, then he began to growl (can lions growl?) and got the other nearby cats all worked up. It scared Joshy pretty bad so we left and went to look at the tiger next door. Well, the lion finally settled down but kept watching us until we left. Once we were finally gone he settled back down again. It was a little eerie.

I was looking all over for Ashley this afternoon. I could hear her laughing, but couldn't see her. I followed her laugh and soon discovered her hiding behind the couch!
